While the traditional values of different Native peoples in the Arctic likely differ, it appeared during pretests of the Survey of Living Conditions that many values are held in common. 

TRADVAL Sum of "very important" values g1ar-g1dr, g1fr-g1or.

COMTRAD A summary measure of G4a-G4t giving the sum of "very satisfied" responses for the 20 values promoted in the community.

COMTRD2 Better measure than COMTRAD based on all responses to G4ar -G4tr

SUBVAL higher importance of either of three variables: "hunting and fishing I do" (G1b) and "harvesting of wild berries and plants I do" (G1d) and "preserving of Inupiat foods I do" (G1f).

G1er Importance of "occupation or profession" (Note: this is a reversal of value codes for G1e).
