The Municipality of Anchorage Department of Health and Human Services has received funding from the U.S. Department of Heath and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families to implement the S.A.F.E. Child Project. This project is a community based approach with multi-agency involvement to prevent child abuse and neglect that includes: (1) promoting child abuse prevention though a multi-cultural child abuse prevention media campaign (2) perform community based outreach and education to professionals, children, youth and adults and (3) perform intervention services to enhance the State Office of Children's Services (OCS) systemic response to child abuse within the Alaska Native community. The overall goal of the S.A.F.E. Child Project is to reduce child abuse and neglect in Anchorage through prevention, education and intervention services.
The Municipality of Anchorage has contracted with Behavioral Health Research and Services to conduct an evaluation of the multicultural media campaign implemented as part of the S.A.F.E. Child Project. The primary goal of this evaluation project is to evaluate the public's understanding and awareness of the media campaign and to provide formative feedback for future media campaigns.
