Economics 300:  The Economy of Alaska

An internet-based distance education course taught by
Gunnar Knapp, Professor of Economics, University of Alaska Anchorage

This course provides an overview of the economy of Alaska.  Major topics include Alaska geography, Alaska’s economic history, Alaska economic data sources, economic models of regional economies, the rural Alaska economy, and major Alaska industries including oil and gas, fisheries, mining, transportation, tourism, trade, services and government.  The course also addresses current Alaska economic policy issues including state fiscal policy and economic development strategies.  The course is taught entirely over the internet using “Blackboard” distance education software.  I have taught this course every spring semester since 2001.

Syllabus for Economics 300:  The Economy of Alaska (Spring 2008).  This is the Spring 2008 syllabus for this course.  I will post the Spring 2009 syllabus in December 2008.  It will be similar to the 2008 syllabus, with relatively minor changes.
