Econ. 359: Industrial Organization
Spring 2008
Case Study Prospectus
Due April 2, 2008
Each group prepares a prospectus containing
1. Statement of the problem -- one or two paragraphs
- Define the issue
- Define the relevant market
- Define the scope of your enquiry
2. What public decision is involved -- one paragraph
- Summarize the established policy/legal process for addressing
the problem.
- Summarize the role of the student group as a "shadow process".
- State the two sides (pro and con) for the decision
3. Outline of Work Plan
- Topics -- what will the report include?
- Who will do what tasks?
- Main sources of information?
Questions to consider in preparing the prospectus:
1. Is problem definition clear? Are important issues left out?
2. Does the proposed process make sense given the current status of the
case?
3. Are there other sources of information that the group might have overlooked?
4. Are the important issues included in the topic list?
5. Is the division of tasks fair and realistic?
