XP Services configuration
To configure XP services click start/settings/control panel/administrative
tools/services. Once you have clicked it open you will see headings for the serives
such as: name,
description,
status, startup type and login as. click the status heading to sort by which
services are started. Using that as a starting point you can use the following
information to help you eliminate services that you don't really need. To enable/disable;
stop or start a service simply right click it and then click properties in the
resulting pull down menu. After tweeking
you may have to restart your computer to have to initate the changes you make.This
sort
of tweeking can cause crashes and such, so keep track of what you do.
Bear in mind that every machine is different. That being said
here is a picture of services
that most folks can live without and then there is a a
picture of se rives that
most folks can not live without. You may need to adjust the window size of
your browser to see these pictures clearly.
