Lunchtime Talk: Salmon, People, Place: Coastal Alaska Communities that Depend on Fisheries

In this presentation, Davin Holen, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, will discuss his dissertation, which examines the intersection of commercial and subsistence fishing in Alaska for food security, culture, and community well-being. His multi-year project documents how the economic and cultural value of salmon promotes the long-term viability of coastal Alaska communities.

New Book Features Five ISER Authors

The book, Alaska Politics and Public Policy: The Dynamics of Beliefs, Institutions, Personalities, and Power, has chapters written by former ISER directors Fran Ulmer, Gunnar Knapp, and Scott Goldsmith, as well as Diane Hirshberg, director of the Center for Alaska Education Policy Research at ISER, and Alexandra Hill, ISER's associate director for finance and administration.
