Arctic Social Indicators Initiative, Akureyri Iceland, September 2006Following its publication of the Artic Human Development Report, the Arctic Council established an Arctic Social Indicators working group charged with developing a small number of indicators that could be used to track changes in living conditions in the Arctic. Birger Poppel and Jack Kruse of the SLiCA team are members of this group. The Arctic Social Indicators initiative held its first workshop in Akureyri Iceland 14-16 September. Arctic social indicators will be developed around recommendations of the Arctic Human Development Report. The group, including SLICA team members Poppel and Kruse, will develop indicators in six domains: Fate control, Cultural Integrity, Closeness to nature, Education, Material Well-being, Health/Demography. SLICA results will be used to illustrate the potential contribution of survey data. |
