Well-Being - Migration
- Community sustainability is ultimately dependent on peoples’ choice of where to live. We have developed a preliminary model of village migration that identifies the links between subsistence, wage employment, and the cost of moving.
- In the remainder of Year 2, we will use Public Use Samples from the US Census and place data from the 1980 and 1990 dicennial censuses to examine migration patterns and revise the migration model. We will extend the analysis to include Canadian data.
- In Year 3, we will use the results of empirical analyses as a basis for discussions with community experts on the relationships between community changes and migration decisions. We will incorporate the results of these discussions in the synthesis model for application in Year 4.
